Analyzed Passage
Grading Justification
A: Knowledge and understanding of the text or extract
For this criterion I gave myself a 7 because I knew the book that this extract belonged to, and I explained the plot of the book where my extract took place, thus showing my knowledge of the text. I also explained the extract itself to show my understanding of the extract.
B: Understanding of the use and effects of literary features
For this criterion I gave myself a 4 because I showed awareness of the literary features used and explained what those features reveal, but I didn't go in depth about their effects on the reader.

C: Organization
For this criterion I gave myself a 3 because my IOC was organized and structured, but only somewhat followed the flow of the passage during the "body" of my IOC.
D: Language
For this criterion I gave myself a 3 because the language was clear and appropriate, but I had many pauses while trying to think of what to say, and some of my statements could be seen as difficult to follow.
I thought you did a great job on this post. Your grading justification was very good and I liked how you justified each with honesty. I thought your annotations were okay. The highlighting was a very good strategy I did not use. I do think it may help you out next time to write more in the margins about what you are arguing. I know this helped me a lot when I did my IOC. Great blog post!!
ReplyDeleteIn your grading you justified yourself, but I think it would be more helpful if you gave examples, such as where in the monologue you listed literary features but didn't go in depth about the effects and what was said, since the recording isn't available (or I'm completing missing the link). I'm not sure how much time you spent planning, but just a tip it would be helpful to organize your thoughts from your annotations onto either a separate piece of paper or on the back of excerpt itself so that you have a better flow in your statements, something you cited you had difficulty with in your review of Criterions C and D.
ReplyDeleteGrading yourself is always weird, as most are highly critical of themselves. I feel that most people, from the posts I have seen, are breaking down in the structure aspect. It is understandable, as you are trying to fit everything you say into short time frame, and most likely jumping back to add on something you've said earlier. After seeing this trend, I would recommend taking maybe 5 out of the 15 mins to create and play back in your head the specific structure you have as to plan out what to say. Keep up the good work, and the structure will come. You got this!
